JLS Craftsmen is a top notch company. I was incredibly happy with the 5ft cedar picket fence they installed at my house. I worked with Jordan initially, and he was super helpful answering questions about their process, materials, bid, and schedule. Brandon and his crew installed the fence and were exceptional. I was really impressed with their professionalism, speed, and quality of work. Brandon had a few suggestions to improve the fence layout that ultimately led to a much better product. The fence looked great once it was complete, and they also left my yard clean after completing all the work. Not only were they helpful during the bid and install, they also were quick to respond to an issue that came up with one of the gates. One of the large gates started to sag, and JLS was quick to come take a look at it and make the necessary adjustments. Overall, it was a great experience working with them and I would recommend them to everyone!Posted on Google

Lauren Johnson10 days agoJLS did an absolutely fantastic job, from Jordan coming out for the initial estimate and how Jake the owner worked with us directly to get it scheduled and budget out exactly what worked for our needs, and Brandon the project manager showed us every step of the process. This company is top tier and I love how accurate their estimates are and how they go over options on how the fence can be built for your specific house. We got quotes from a lot of people and let me say this is the company want building the fence. They were fast and it’s absolutely beautiful.Posted on Google

The Oh Family26 days agoWe were looking to have our fence replaced and searched online for a good local company. After seeing all the great reviews for JLS Craftsmen, we decided to give them a try, and I’m really glad we did. Right from the first phone call, everyone was friendly and helpful. Jordan came out to our house right on time, which is always a big plus for me. He walked us through everything, explained our options, and gave us his recommendations without ever making us feel pressured or trying to upsell us on things we didn’t need. He also explained what to expect during the project, including the installation and cleanup. Communication throughout the whole process was excellent. The crew texted me to let me know when they would be arriving, showed up on time, and finished the job when they said they would. They did an amazing job on our new fence and cleaned everything up afterward. The price was very reasonable for the quality of work, and anytime I had a question and emailed them, they responded quickly with an answer. Overall, we had a great experience with JLS Craftsmen from beginning to end. Our new fence looks amazing, and I would definitely use them again. If you’re looking to replace your fence, I would highly recommend JLS Craftsmen!+2Posted on Google

Steven Still67 days agoJLS was awesome to work with. They did a great job with our fence install and at a great price. I think the biggest differentiator between them and the other guys was the personal touch. So many companies have automated follow ups and reoccurring texts/emails that go out. JLS had actual people reach out, show up on time, and complete the job when they said they were going to. The install crew was some of the most professional contractors I’ve experienced lately. Alex is the man! Highly recommend JLS if you are needing a fence installed.Posted on Google

J P117 days agoJLS just finished a ornamental steel fence with a puppy guard on the sides of our yard. We have been impressed from the initial phone call to the email we received after installation with the JLS and manufacturer warranty certificates. We worked with Jordan for the estimate and Alex for the installation. This company sent their values in an email before the project started. This was not the usual insincere corporate garbage. They place the bar high for themselves in doing the right thing by their customers and employees. They delivered on what they wrote. Thanks, JLS. It was a pleasure working with you. (PS. I was not asked by them or an annoying email bot to write this.)Posted on Google

Holly Skelton152 days agoIf you are weighing your options with a fence company, I wanted to share my appreciation for the wonderful experience we had with JLS Craftsman on our recent fencing project. After our previous negative experience with another company, we were careful in our selection process, and speaking with Jake and Jordan helped us feel confident in choosing JLS Craftsman. Our yard presented several challenges, including complex slopes and bordering six different properties with children and dogs. Alex, who managed our project, went truly above and beyond. As we transitioned from a wooden to a black metal fence, some neighbors were concerned about the loss of shared posts now that the material was different and wouldn't connect. We owned the posts so it made it tricky situation. Alex handled this brilliantly by coming up with an idea that satisfied us and the neighbors. He was very calm and professional which was appreciated when dealing with neighbors. His customer service and professionalism was exceptional and he always listened to any concerns and answered all of our questions. Throughout the process, we always knew the schedule and exactly what work was being performed. We are very pleased with the results and the professional service provided by the JLS Craftsman team. This was important and an expense to our family so the level of expertise and customer service they provided made us feel we had made the right decision.Posted on Google
Dawn Murphy156 days agoWe had a great experience with JLS Craftsmen in installing our new backyard fence. They were very quick to respond to our first inquiry, installation was scheduled faster than we expected and our new 5 foot cedar fence with lattice on top was finished in 2.5 days - that included a half day rain delay. We had great communication from them through the process, and our foreman (Alex) kept us informed on progress. Our fence is high quality- we are very pleased with the end result.Posted on Google

Jay Scott186 days agoJordan, Jake and Alex were incredible to work with! Very smooth on their end (my HOA was a pain) but they handled it so well taking the stress out of the process. Fence quality and stability is great! Alex worked so fast and corrected something I noticed (im incredibly picky) which honestly wouldnt have made a difference but he gladly took care of it for me. Out of 8 quotes, they weren't the lowest, but they sold me with their character and transparency. And they were far from the highest quote. I wouldnt recommend anyone else+0Posted on Google

Not to mention extremely reasonable on the price! They were only a couple hundred dollars more than the big guys but their attention to detail and the guys they use are extremely experienced. And quick! Not to mention i did not have to pick up any trash or anything behind them. I HIGHLY recommend JLS if you need a fence!Posted on Google
Dustin B214 days agoAbsolutely fantastic experience with JLS Craftsmen! I had a couple 6' privacy fence sections replaced (roughly 87 total linear ft.) and a new gate installed. Not only do they do quality work, but they're great problem solvers, too. There were a few problem areas on the property that they took note of, and they presented solutions that made sense and I'm so happy with the decisions that were made. Richard Tooley271 days agoWorking with Jake and the team at JLS Craftsman was nothing short of amazing. From start to finish, their entire process was incredibly professional and well-organized. Their communication truly sets them apart. The notifications, scheduling updates, responsiveness, and overall transparency were excellent. They answer the phone, respond quickly, show up when they say they will, and deliver high-quality work—things that unfortunately are not always a given anymore in the trades. As a fellow business owner here in Johnson County, I pay close attention to how companies operate. We hired JLS Craftsman for a fence project, and I was genuinely impressed by the entire experience. Everything went smoothly from beginning to end, and I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. If you’re on the fence (no pun intended) about hiring a fencing contractor, I can confidently say you’ll get outstanding service with JLS Craftsman. James G351 days agoI was not looking for a typical fence when I contacted JLS. I had a very specific vision of the fence I was looking for. From the quoting process to my first discussion with the owner, Jake, I could tell the JLS team was excited that I was looking for something different and they were excited to take on the challenge. Brandon and Dayton were the onsite fence builders. These guys were awesome and detail focused! They were fully focused on how I wanted the fence and made it happen. With 6x6 angle cut posts and rough sawn cedar rails these guys took on the challenge and delivered something awesome! 5-star build and experience for sure. UPDATE 10/24 - The fence built by JLS Craftsmen looks even more amazing once stained! The company that did the staining, Renew Deck and Fence, told me the JLS Craftsmen fence was well built using quality materials. Jeremy O. at Renew Deck and Fence did a fantastic job with the staining / protecting. See the added photos of the stained fence.+5Posted on Google

Tiffany H372 days agoIf you want a horizontal modern fence, JLS is the company to use. My fence was a complex and large build on a sloped yard and they built exactly what I asked for. Jordan answered all my questions promptly and gave a thorough explanation of the process. I got three bids and they were all similar in price. The difference is in the quality of cedar, burying the posts deeper, and the handling of the client experience. To add, I had a neighbor that harassed me about the property line and tried to stop the work. The owner, Jake, came out to the job site immediately and handled everything. Foreman Alex went over the design in detail and answered all questions I had during the build. The crew was incredibly professional and pleasant. I have already received multiple compliments from my other neighbors who love the improvement made to the home!+4Posted on Google

R Berg394 days agoI wondered whether the on-line quote was just a way to get me in the door. Nope, that's what I ended up paying. JLS was 25% less expensive than what the big box store quoted - and for a fence using higher-quality materials. Communication was great and the crew that did the install were professional (they each shook my hand and introduced themselves) and finished 108 feet of fence, including removal of existing fence, in one day. I've already recommended them to several friends and will continue to do so.Posted on Google

From the first telephone call, followed by Jordan's prompt visit to discuss the project to the final walkthrough with Brandon once the fence was completed, the communication was exemplary. The bid was competitive and fair. JLS craftsman were flexible with my requests and timing of the installation. The project was complicated as they had to install the fence in-between 50 yr old brick columns with footings that extended well beyond underground, as well as part of the fence being on a retaining wall. Brandon kept me updated throughout the 3 day project. I highly recommend JLS craftsman.Posted on Google

Steven Marcotte480 days ago5 Stars — Would Give 6 If I Could! JLS Craftsmen recently replaced an old privacy fence in our huge yard — a fence that had been poorly installed by an acquaintance of a previous homeowner. From start to finish, they exceeded our expectations. Our project coordinator, Jordan, walked the yard with us, listened to our concerns, and truly understood our vision. Our home is unique, and we wanted a one-of-a-kind fence to complement it. Jordan was responsive and thoughtful, helping us work out the details to make it just right. Alex, the foreman, was fantastic to work with. He communicated clearly about the work they’d be doing each day, answered all my questions, and was genuinely dedicated to getting every detail perfect. He worked incredibly hard — sometimes 12-hour days — and his passion for fencing and true craftsmanship really shows in the final result. JLS Craftsmen did an outstanding job. The fence looks beautiful and is exactly what we hoped for. We’re already thinking about adding a deck and hope to work with Jordan and Alex again when the time comes. My only complaint? Google only lets me give them five stars — they deserve six!+8Posted on Google

Dylan Vessell534 days agoThe whole process through JLS was great. The online estimate tool is so easy and user-friendly, and after that, Jordan reached out and was very supportive and helpful. At no point in my interactions with JLW was it "Sales"; it was only service. They did everything, and communication was apparent. They came out, did a field walk, got the city permit and dig permits, and provided a document to submit for HOA approval. The install crew was punctual, had a great attitude, and maintained a clean work area. The owner, Jake, even made a visit to ensure everyone was pleased with the product. Olga Santiago535 days agoJake and his crew exceeded my expectations on my fence project. They made this project run so smoothly and efficient that I’m still in shock they completed it in such a short time. All the other companies had a minimum of 7 days which more than likely it was going to turn into two weeks as companies usually work on other projects simultaneously. This is not the case with JLS. Their professionalism, customer service, and attention to detail makes JLS the very best option out there when it comes to fences. I’m very happy with the end result and HIGHLY recommend them!+2Posted on Google

Robyn Luce571 days agoThis company did not fail to impress! From start to finish they set out to "wow" us. Jordan was quick to arrive and thorough in getting us an estimate. Jake, the owner, contacted us within 24hrs to see if we had any questions about the estimate or the company. Fast forward just a few weeks and on a couple of the coldest days of the year, Brandon and his crew showed up, on time, to begin the process! For 3 straight full days, I knew when the crew would begin and when they would knock off for the day. They were as reliable as clockwork and communicated every step of the way. Did I mention how cold it was? Yikes! Morning #2 was a "feels like" temp of 11°. If Brandon had a question, he didn't even have me come to the door unless necessary--he just took off his gloves and shot me a text! The end result is a beautifully constructed new backyard fence! There is just no downside to having chosen JLS Craftsmen! We really appreciate the entire team!! Now....to talk to them about a deck remodel...🤔🙂 Our sincere thanks! ~Paul & Robyn We did it! JLS Craftsmen just finished our beautiful deck! When they first gave us a March start date--it seemed pretty optimistic and ambitious for KS weather, but they scraped ice off the old deck and began teardown! Once again the team was fantastic and were great at communicating with us. Project #2 is so lovely we're not ready to quit! We just signed on for them to do our front porch!Posted on Google
paul luce571 days agoWe started with a fence replacement and were so pleased with that project had them replace our deck. Liked it so well we have a third project in process for the front porch. Jake and his team have been quick to respond, workmanship is excellent, and quickly address any questions. Most impressive to me is that they dealt directly almost 100% with my wife. They treated her professionally, listened to her questions and delivered as expected. Highly pleased and recommend JLS craftsmen for your next project.Posted on Google

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to build a fence?
The cost of a fence depends upon several factors. The main determining factors consist of what type of fence material is selected, the style of fence being built, what type and how many gates are installed, and, of course, how many linear feet of fence is required. (Linear footage is calculated by measuring the perimeter of the area that the fence will be built on.)

What's the best fence for the backyard?
Once you have completed the online fence estimate tool, our estimator will meet with you in person and, based upon your goals for your fence project, will come up with a solution that meets your needs. Meeting with our customers and seeing the site for the fence project provides an opportunity for us to understand your needs and provide the best estimate for your project.
How long does it take to install a fence?
JLS Craftsmen generally uses 100ft per day as a baseline to set our schedule. Punctuality and reliability are very important to us, so we are very conservative with our scheduling times. With this fence company you will get an exact installation date, not an estimated timeframe. It is our goal and intention to hit that date. If for some unforeseen reason such as weather prevents us from doing that, we will surely communicate that and make sure you are aware.
What fence type offers the least amount of maintenance?
Our metal and chain link fences, require the least amount of maintenance. Wood fences should be stained and sealed to protect the fence from the elements and extend its life.
How to know who owns a fence?
Most municipalities in our area require the “finished side” to face out – meaning that the pickets are on the outside of the owners property. However, that is not always the case. We do not conduct any property surveys nor do we imply property lines. If there is an existing fence, you should check with your neighbors to be certain the fence is yours. A survey company can mark your property lines for a fee and are the only way to definitively and legally determine property lines. The cities that we service will use the AIMs mapping system for the issuance of permits, but only a licensed survey company can be used for disputes. We have found that most situations are resolved with simple neighborly conversations.
How do you build a fence on sloped ground?
We stick build our fences, so we have the ability to either go with the grade and follow the contour of the land (this is best for when keeping something in or out of a slopped area is the goal) or we can “step” the fence to keep each section level. Stepping often requires additional material to cover any gaps and can be more expensive. Our skilled craftsmen are capable of both and or any variations of the two.
